From May 5 to June 8, 2025, the “Urban Midwives, between Heritage and C…” will be inaugurated at the Open Gallery Grutas of the Bosque de Chapultepec, showcasing the enduring tensions surrounding the role of midwives in modern society. This exhibition highlights the historical prejudices faced by midwives, influenced by the rise of biomedical discourse that disparaged their practices while also recognizing the sacred nature of midwifery in Mesoamerican culture, particularly within Mexica traditions. It addresses the complex perceptions of midwives as both revered spiritual figures and marginalized practitioners within contemporary health narratives.
Additionally, the event features “Miguel Covarrubias: A Borderless Gaze,” an exhibition that delves into the multifaceted life and work of the groundbreaking Mexican creator.
