New breed of NGOs new movers and shakers

They don’t wear balaclavas or wave banners, but they are bringing about change

Mexico’s new movers and shakers, The Economist writes this week, are the non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that have sprouted in recent years and are making an impact with their hard-facts analysis, solid arguments and social media campaigns.

One opposition politician believes that new reforms designed to tackle corruption, which have gone beyond what was originally planned by the administration of President Peña Nieto, would not have gone as far as they have without the lobbying of the these new NGOs, which have come into their own.
