Body believed to be that of missing man

O'Neil McGean had been missing in Mazatlán since October 25

A body found yesterday afternoon in Mazatlán is believed to be that of O’Neil Patrick McGean, who has been missing for over a week.

Although authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body found at a home in the city’s Azteca neighborhood, various media reports, quoting official sources, say it was that of the 10-year resident of Mazatlán.

McGean, 52, left his home at about 8:00pm October 25 to meet someone at the Hotel Punta Pacífico but has not been seen since.

His car was found by friends on Saturday in the city’s tourist district.

Unnamed sources said today that three people were arrested in the home where the body was found, and speculated that they were responsible for kidnapping and killing McGean. There has been no report that a ransom was demanded, although his bank cards had been used at various banks in the city.

Borderland Beat reported that McGean, a businessman who owned Café Playa Sur, spearheaded a successful fundraising drive to replace several thousands of dollars’ worth of materials that were destroyed when a school was vandalized.
