While some in Mexico have doubts about the prospects of their team in the World Cup, there is no doubting the strength and vitality of footbal fanaticism in this country.
The Aztec Invasion of Brazil, presumably the second since the soccer spectacle began, was seen to begin Monday when 16 Aeromexico charters brought 3,200 fans to Fortaleza, site of today’s game against Brazil.
Another 3,600 arrived on a cruise ship, bringing to 17,000 the number of Mexicans believed to be in the city.
Last night, hundreds of Mexican fans serenaded their team outside the hotel in which the team is staying, singing Cielito Lindo and Sigo Siendo el Rey among others.
It was the second night in a row that fans gathered outside the hotel.
