Mexican pilots find jobs, better pay in Asia

Mexican airline pilots in search of jobs and/or better pay have found homes in the Philippines, Quatar, China and India, where their new jobs pay upwards of US $10,000 per month.

Under current conditions in Mexico, a pilot can expect to make 50,000 pesos a month, less than half the income of those who have left for greener pastures, says an aeronautical specialist at the National Polytechnical Institute.

María de la Luz Aguilera also said that in recent years aviation unions have lost power and salaries have dropped to half what they used to be.

Most of the exiled pilots used to work for Mexicana, which went out of business a few years ago.
