Normal school students in Michoacán burned another bus today, their 13th this month.
Students had parked the vehicle, belonging to Omnibus México, across the Uruapan-Pátzcuaro highway near San Juan Tumbio in order to stop traffic.
When state police showed up, students set fire to the bus and fled the scene.
The students, who are studying to be teachers, are protesting to demand automatic job placements upon finishing school. They are also protesting the arrest of 15 fellow students who have been arrested in connection with the ongoing protests.
Students at a protest today in the capital city, Morelia, distanced themselves from the release on the weekend of nearly 100 trucks and buses that had been stolen by the CNTE teachers’ union and stored in the municipality of Nahuatzen.
The students have their own vehicle storage facility, also in Nahuatzen, where they are holding an estimated 100 vehicles, many of them buses.
Bus lines shut down some routes in a protest of their own last week, saying they’d had enough, but resumed service on the weekend as a vote of confidence in state authorities.
