A woman believed to be a financial operator with the Sinaloa Cartel has been arrested in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
Federal Police detained Guadalupe Fernández Valencia, also known as La Patrona, a 55-year-old drug trafficker who according to intelligence reported directly to Jesús Alfredo Guzmán Salazar, a son of cartel boss Joaquín Guzmán.
Fernández Valencia is wanted in the United States for trafficking in cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana and money laundering.
She was added to the U.S. Treasury Department’s kingpin list last November, meaning any assets she holds in the U.S. can be seized and American citizens are prohibited from conducting business with her.
Her brother was another senior member of the Sinaloa Cartel. Manuel Fernández Valencia is in custody in the U.S.
