Two luxury resort developments have been announced for the Pacific coast on either side of Puerto Vallarta.
One&Only Resorts, which bills itself as being exclusively for the ultra-luxury resort market, will build One&Only Mandarina in Riviera Nayarit, about 50 kilometers north of Puerto Vallarta, and Only&Only Santa María de Xala, about 100 kilometers to the south.
The projects will be developed by Kerzner International Holdings and BK Partners, a private equity fund. There are nine One&Only resorts worldwide, including Palmilla in Los Cabos, also operated by Kerzner, and several more are in development.
Both new Mexican properties will include luxury villas and private residential properties as well as restaurants. Mandarina will have 145 villas, a retail component, a beach club, a spa and a conference center. Santa María de Xala, part of a 1,200-hectare development, is billed as an authentic hacienda resort with eight kilometers of beachfront, and will feature 75 luxury villas and suites.
The resorts will cater to families with children as well as adult vacationers, and will offer sports and entertainment facilities as well.
The developers say they will showcase Mexico’s history and reflect local culture “with a design appeal to attract the contemporary traveler seeking ultimate luxury.”
The One&Only Palmilla Resort in San José del Cabo enjoys a five-star rating on Trip Advisor and room rates range from 7,200 to 12,000 pesos, or US $475 to $800 per night.
