A young musician playing a piano on display in a Liverpool store on Sunday was captured on video, which in turn captured the hearts and the attention of thousands of Facebook users — and Liverpool itself.
Edna Samore had come across the young man while he was playing and streamed live video of his impromptu performance to her Facebook account, drawing over 11,000 shares, 338,000 views and 2,300 comments.
Someone at the department store was among those viewers and shared the video to Liverpool’s own Facebook page along with a message saying it wished to get in touch.
“This video was shared with us and now we would like to meet the talented boy who played the piano in one of the Liverpool stores,” said the post. “Can you help us find him?”
Early this afternoon, after the post received over 100,000 shares and nearly 6,000 comments, the store announced it had heard from the young star, thanked readers for their help and hinted there was a surprise to come.
“We have now found Gael! We ask that you follow our social networks to find out how this story ends.”
Many commenters urged Liverpool to give the young man a piano and one assumed it had. The store only said in response, “We want to support Mexican talent, thank you.”
The Mexican talent in this case is Gael Sebastián Segura Ibarra, an 11-year-old from Querétaro who was playing the piano in Liverpool’s San Juan del Río store and has been playing since he was four years old.
He too is probably waiting to see what comes next.
