Get your tickets at Casa Europa México or visit: www.casaeuropamexico.com The opera Gianni Schicchi is a comic opera in one act composed by Giacomo Puccini, with libretto by Giovacchino Forzano, based on an episode from Dante Alighieri’s Inferno (Canto XXX of the Inferno, The Divine Comedy). Plot: The story takes place in Florence in the 13th century and begins with the death of Buoso Donati, a wealthy old man. His greedy relatives discover to their horror that he has left his entire inheritance to a monastery. In order not to lose the fortune, they decide to turn to Gianni Schicchi, a cunning and skillful peasant, to help them forge a new will. Schicchi, impersonating the dying Buoso, dictates a new will before a notary. However, in a comical and unexpected twist, he himself gets the better part of the inheritance, including the house, the donkey and the mill, all under the pretext of fulfilling the deceased’s wishes. This causes outrage among the relatives, but they can do nothing without incriminating themselves. Schicchi’s ulterior motive is to help his daughter Lauretta, who is in love with Rinuccio, Buoso’s nephew. By keeping the inheritance, he secures the young couple’s future. Most famous aria: The opera is especially known for the aria “O mio babbino caro,” sung by Lauretta, where she begs her father (Gianni Schicchi) to help her marry Rinuccio. Operísima México, based in San Miguel de Allende, was founded by Mtro. Rogelio Riojas-Nolasco, pianist and vocal coach with more than 40 years of national and international experience in the preparation and perfection of artists in the field of opera. The objective of Operísima México is to develop classical singing talents, to give them the tools, knowledge and skills that take them to a competitive level in the world of opera. Among the activities carried out, the workshops for the study and perfection of roles in complete operas, the improvement of stage and body movement, and the correct handling of languages (diction and phrasing in Italian, French, German and English) stand out, with the purpose of promoting the dissemination of opera and, in general, lyrical art in Mexico, as well as helping singers in their professional and personal development.
