The combined event, “Antonio: Indomitable Fashion & Tixinda: 40 years in defense of the purple snail & The Lionesses,” showcases a rich tapestry of cultural preservation and personal empowerment. It features an exhibition honoring Antonio Lopez, the influential fashion illustrator whose work defined the styles of the 1970s and 1980s, through sketches, photographs, costumes, films, and magazines. Alongside this, the event dives into the historical and biocultural journey of the Mixtec community in Pinotepa de Don Luis, Oaxaca, highlighting their four-decade struggle to preserve the ancestral dye from the purple snail, or tixinda, and the textile knowledge it embodies. Additionally, “The Lionesses” presents the inspiring stories of five women, illustrating human resilience and emotional strength, encouraging attendees to reclaim their inner power, overcome guilt, let go of attachments, and forge their own destinies.
