The El Nigromante Cultural Center in San Miguel de Allende will host the exhibition “El Convite de Locos” opening June 11 The magic of the traditional Convite de Locos will arrive at the Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromante Cultural Center with an exhibition that collects photographs, testimonies and a sample of the masks that have been used in the emblematic San Miguel festival. The cultural space thus joins the San Miguel tradition, which this year will take place on Sunday, June 15, through a cultural memory that is the result of the joint work carried out with the four paintings that have kept this tradition alive: Cuadro del Parque, Cuadro Antiguo, Cuadro Nuevo and Cuadro del Tecolote.   The temporary exhibition will be inaugurated next Wednesday, June 11 as part of the second cycle of exhibitions of the Ignacio Ramírez El Nigromante Cultural Center that has been described as: “A cycle that celebrates creative plurality, from abstract work and symbolic elements of traditional festivities, promoting memory, artistic practice and critical thinking.” The exhibition called ‘The Invitation of Fools. A cultural memory’ is made up of a series of photographs by Arturo Suárez, objects and testimonies that celebrate the community identity of having been part of this festival that has been held in San Miguel de Allende for more than 50 years. What is ‘El Convite de Locos’? The Convite de Locos is one of the most popular traditions in the city and is part of the festivity in honor of San Antonio de Padua, although there is no specific data of its beginnings, its origin is related to the festival of San Pascual Bailón, patron saint of the Locos to whom they dedicate their dances and their devotion. The groups that dance at the banquet are divided into four traditional tableaux: Cuadro del Parque, Cuadro Antiguo, Cuadro Nuevo and Cuadro del Tecolote, each one made up of 13 groups, all with their allegorical floats and sound or musical band.
