The Traditional Posadas in San Miguel de Allende are one of Mexico’s most cherished Christmas traditions, bringing together faith, music, and community as night‑time processions recreate the journey of Mary and Joseph in the days leading up to Christmas Eve. Organized by the city’s Dirección de Cultura y Tradiciones, these public celebrations invite residents and visitors alike to walk through the historic center with candles and song, filling the colonial streets with a festive, deeply local spirit.

From December 16 to 24, 2025, each posada begins at 7:00 p.m., following a unique route that winds past some of San Miguel’s most emblematic streets and landmarks. On Tuesday 16, the procession starts at the Parish of Saint Michael the Archangel and arrives at the Temple of San Francisco; on Wednesday 17 it departs from the Temple of San Francisco and concludes at the Temple of La Salud; on Thursday 18 it begins at the Temple of La Salud and ends at the Temple of the Immaculate Conception. On Friday 19, participants gather at the Temple of the Immaculate Conception and walk to the Parish of Saint Anthony of Padua; on Saturday 20, the route runs from Saint Anthony of Padua to the Temple of San Juan de Dios; and on Sunday 21 it starts at the Temple of San Juan de Dios and finishes at the Temple of the Oratory.

The final three nights extend the celebration into local neighborhoods. On Monday 22, the posada leaves from the Temple of the Oratory and arrives in the Aurora Herradura neighborhood; on Tuesday 23 it begins in Aurora Herradura and returns toward the center, concluding at the Temple of Santa Ana. On Wednesday 24, Christmas Eve, the last procession departs from the Temple of Santa Ana and makes its way to the Main Garden, where the community gathers at the kiosk for the traditional cradling of the Baby Jesus—a closing moment that captures the heart of San Miguel’s holiday season.
