“As the discovery of a so-called “extermination camp” in the state of Jalisco continues to provoke horror in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum on Monday announced six “immediate” actions against the crime of disappearance.”

Sheinbaum declared on Monday that “attending to the problem of missing persons” — there are more than 100,000 in Mexico — is a “national priority” for her government.

The recent discovery of hundreds of shoes at a mass grave in Jalisco prompted search groups across Mexico to convoke a symbolic Day of Mourning on Saturday.

In addition to Mexico City, search groups held a mass vigil on Saturday in several cities, including Fresnillo, Ciudad Juárez and Tuxtla Gutiérrez.
