Meta launches its Muse AI agent in Mexico, a first for the Latin American market

Muse, Meta’s artificial intelligence (AI) agent, has arrived in Mexico, the first country in Latin America to receive it.

In a LinkedIn post, Meta México Country Manager Marco Casarin explained what its AI agent can provide users:

“It doesn’t just answer questions: you tell it what you want to achieve, it figures out how to do it, creates the plan, and moves forward on its own. It takes tasks off your plate, accompanies you, organizes you, and keeps you focused.”

And just what is an AI agent?

According to SAS, a global software company, AI agents are “systems powered by AI that perform complex tasks or make informed decisions with varying human involvement.”

AI agents “surpass traditional chatbots and large language models by integrating data and advanced analytics tools to be more adaptable and capable of complex reasoning across industries.”

Casarin said that Muse can connect to your email, calendar, messages and Instagram, describing its ability to connect to other apps and services, always under the user’s control, as one of its standout features.

The first Muse connectors in Mexico will be in the retail, credit and lending categories, as well as in the travel, car rental, entertainment and food delivery industries. Some of the brands mentioned by Casarin are: Cinépolis, Coppel, Despegar, Kavak, Liverpool and Rappi.

Users will be able to access the products and services of these brands, “allowing you to buy movie tickets, find your next car, plan your holiday trip, and find the best deals for everyday purchases,” Casarin wrote. “No more jumping from app to app, no more opening 10 tabs. Decide your goal, ask Muse for it, and enjoy.”

Equally important, according to Casarin, is that the user is always in control. “You decide what it can access,” he said. “You authorize every action before it happens, and you see everything it does and everything it plans to do.”

In Mexico, Muse is already available in Spanish for users over 18 years old through iOS, Android, and muse.ai.  it will soon be compatible with AI glasses, and you’ll even be able to interact with Muse via WhatsApp.

Fair warning: The convenience of an AI agent comes with the price of sharing more details about your life and, once AI agents obtain users’ information, there’s no taking back the data shared.

And as Fast Company magazine points out, Meta’s controversial history with user data makes its promises about privacy a hard sell.
