FONMAR (Fideicomiso Fondo para la Protección de los Recursos Marinos) is a state government trust established on November 29, 2004, in Baja California Sur, created to manage revenues from sport fishing permits and promote sustainable sport fishing across the state’s five municipalities. Operating in coordination with federal, state, and municipal authorities as well as civil society, FONMAR oversees sport fishing permit distribution, marine resource surveillance, environmental education campaigns, and the organization of an annual calendar of over 100 sport fishing tournaments along BCS’s coast. As an organizer, FONMAR brings full institutional backing from the government of Baja California Sur and a proven track record of coordinating large-scale fishing tournaments — making it the most authoritative and trusted partner for sport fishing events that promote sustainable marine tourism and position BCS as Mexico’s premier sport fishing destination.
