American Voices On a Mexican Stage | Two One-Act Plays at San Migue de Allende
Two sharply drawn one-act plays by Roger M. Williams bring English-language theater, travel misadventures and U.S. history to the intimate stage of Teatro Santa Ana inside San Miguel de Allende’s historic Biblioteca Pública. In “Gone!” an American tourist lost in a Spanish city becomes the engine for a tense yet humorous exploration of disorientation and self-discovery, while “Me? A Traitor? Robert E. Lee Confronts His Critics” invites audiences to reckon with the contested legacy of the U.S. Civil War general through direct, character-driven confrontation.
Staged by director Marjorie Burren with a first-rate local cast, the evening exemplifies San Miguel’s role as one of Mexico’s most dynamic cultural crossroads, where residents, expats and visitors connect through quality performing arts in a Mexican setting. Presented at one of the city’s most emblematic nonprofit cultural centers, tickets are structured as a donation, meaning each seat not only offers a night of thoughtful, entertaining theater but also supports La Biblioteca’s broader mission to expand access to arts, education and community programs in San Miguel de Allende.
Tickets available at the Theater Box Office.
