Festival de Vivos y Muertos: A Family Día de Muertos Celebration
Festival de Vivos y Muertos invites children and families to celebrate the traditions and spirit of Día de Muertos through art, storytelling, and hands-on creativity at Parque Juárez. Designed especially for children ages 3–16, the free event includes a talent contest, arts and crafts, and opportunities to create decorations, symbolic objects, and personal tributes for a family altar. Families can explore the activities at their own pace while celebrating memory, community, and the connections between generations.

Organizer
Art of the Story is a volunteer-driven, nonprofit arts organization in San Miguel de Allende that uses creativity, storytelling, play, movement, and cultural expression to build confidence, empathy, connection, and personal agency. Operating as El Arte de Contar Historias, A.C. and a U.S. 501(c)(3), it raises donations and mobilizes local faculty and volunteers to make arts experiences accessible across age groups.
Its programs include free creative workshops for children through Chispa, family-centered Día de Muertos activities through its partnership with Vivos y Muertos, original live storytelling through Voices, and Spark, an immersive adult creativity experience. The organization’s central goal is to create welcoming spaces where people can explore who they are, express themselves authentically, and participate in a stronger, more inclusive community.
Venue
Parque Juárez is San Miguel de Allende’s green heart: a historic urban park near the center of town, known for its shaded paths, gardens, fountains, and open-air atmosphere. As a venue, it works well for public cultural programming, seasonal festivals, art markets, family outings, and community events, with a relaxed outdoor setting that feels more like a civic gathering space than a formal event venue.
