From Iceland to San Miguel — Andri Brings His Raw Blues & Country Sound to La Biblioteca

On Thursday, March 26th at 6:00 p.m., Teatro Santa Ana at San Miguel de Allende’s Biblioteca Pública hosts one of the more unlikely and fascinating musical stories you’ll encounter this season. Andri Sigurroson hails from Sauðárkrókur, a remote town on the shores of northern Iceland, and his music carries that landscape with it — raw, windswept, and deeply soulful, blending the folk traditions of his homeland with the gritty heart of blues and country. His journey from Iceland through Europe and eventually to Mexico has shaped a sound that is genuinely unlike anything else: haunting Icelandic heritage meeting the warmth and rhythm of his adopted home.

Joining Andri on stage is a tight five-piece band — Poncho Blues on guitar and mandolin, Miguelangel Favero on percussion, Steve Coleridge on bass and harmonica, and Nick Schaefer on violin — creating a rich, layered sound that is equal parts intimate and transporting. Tickets are a $330 peso donation to La Biblioteca Pública, available at labibliotecapublica.org. This is the kind of rare, one-of-a-kind evening that San Miguel does better than almost anywhere else.
