San Miguel de Allende Turns 200: A Month of Free Concerts, Dance and Celebration

San Miguel de Allende turns 200 in 2026, and the city is marking the occasion with a month-long program of free outdoor performances — running from March 6 to 30, with a final event on May 15 — featuring more than 20 shows spanning ballet, mariachi, tango, folkloric dance, classical music, tunas and world music, with ensembles arriving from Costa Rica, Cuba, Guatemala, Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Panama and Togo, all taking the stage at the Explanada del Jardín Principal and other landmark venues in the heart of colonial San Miguel. Admission is free, the setting is unforgettable, and the celebration is open to everyone.

Anniversary Program — What’s On

All events are free and open to the public. Unless noted, performances take place at the Explanada del Jardín Principal in the heart of San Miguel de Allende.

Friday, March 6 — Plaza Cívica
The festivities kick off with an Opening Parade and Inauguration Ceremony at 7:00 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by the Folkloric Research Association of Costa Rica, from La Lajuela.

Saturday, March 7
The city’s own Ballet Representativo de San Miguel opens the evening at 7:00 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by Camilo Mederos and his Musical Group from Cuba.

Friday, March 13
At 7:00 p.m., the Ranima Kikel Kiché Marimba Dance Group from Guatemala takes the stage, followed at 8:00 p.m. by a Retro Band performing the greatest hits of the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Saturday, March 14
The evening opens at 7:00 p.m. with a special tribute marking the 100th birthday of legendary Mexican singer-songwriter José Alfredo Jiménez. At 9:00 p.m., a musical showcase features Edgar Navarrete from Houston, Jesymel y Camerata Capriccio from Peru, and the 40-piece Mariachi Monumental Guanajuatense.

Sunday, March 15
Avenida Cover brings a program of beloved ballads at 7:00 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by El Folklor Silao, showcasing traditional dance and song from Guanajuato.

Thursday, March 19 — Templo de la Tercera Orden
At 6:00 p.m., a heartfelt tribute honors Fray José de Guadalupe Mojica, performed by singers Ramos y Canela in one of San Miguel’s most beautiful historic churches.

Friday, March 20
Ballet Mazatl from San Miguel de Allende opens at 7:00 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by Eneik Tango, bringing the passion of Argentine tango to the Jardín.

Saturday, March 21
A National Tuna Gathering (Encuentro Nacional de Tunas) fills the evening at 7:00 p.m. with four ensembles: Tuna de Oro de Guanajuato, Estudiantina Guadalupana Potosina, Antiguos Tunos de Derecho de la UNAM and Tuna Provinciana.

Sunday, March 22
A triple-bill Sunday: Flor y Canto brings folkloric dance and music from Zacatecas at 6:30 p.m.; Ballet Identidades from Bolivia’s Estudio de Danza performs at 7:00 p.m.; and the evening closes at 8:00 p.m. with Compañía Christ-Dance from Togo.

Friday, March 27
Son Solaris from Puebla opens at 7:15 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by the Taurus Orchestra from Colombia.

Saturday, March 28
San Miguel de Allende’s own municipal bands take the stage at 7:00 p.m., followed at 8:00 p.m. by the Academia de Danza “Expresiones de mi Panamá” and the Folkloric Dance Association of Chitre, Panama.

Sunday, March 29
The Guanajuato State Symphony Band closes out the weekend with a full concert at 6:00 p.m.

Monday, March 30
Wapa México wraps up the month-long celebration with an evening of music, song and dance at 7:00 p.m.

Friday, May 15
The bicentennial programming continues with a salsa showcase and concert at 7:00 p.m.
