San Miguel de Allende marks Holy Week 2026 with a deeply moving series of traditional religious celebrations that bring centuries-old faith and community devotion to life in the streets and churches of the city’s historic center. All events are free and open to everyone.

Sunday, March 22 — 203rd Anniversary of the Arrival of El Señor de la Columna: A celebration marking over two centuries since the beloved statue of Christ arrived in San Miguel, one of the city’s most venerated religious traditions.

Friday, March 27 — Viernes de Dolores (Friday of Sorrows): A solemn day of prayer and reflection honoring the Virgin Mary’s sorrow, traditionally marked by altars and offerings throughout the city.

Sunday, March 29 — Palm Sunday (Domingo de Ramos): The beginning of Holy Week proper, commemorating Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem with palm processions through the streets.

Tuesday, March 31 — Traditional Rehearsal of the Chistu Factus: A rehearsal of the ancient Passion chant — a rare and moving musical tradition unique to San Miguel.
