U.S. based fast-casual chain Chipotle opened its first location in Mexico this week in San Pedro Garza García in the Monterrey metropolitan area. The new restaurant and Chipotle’s plans for further expansion in Mexico are being managed by Alsea, a massive Mexican company that also runs chains like Starbucks, Domino’s and Burger King across Latin America. But many Mexican consumers have pushed back on the idea of an “Americanized” version of Mexican food being sold in the country where the cuisine originated.
