Mariachi Herencia de México made history on “Monday Night Football” by becoming the first mariachi group to perform the U.S. national anthem at Chicago’s Soldier Field. The 14-member ensemble, which grew out of a Chicago public school mariachi program, performed before the Bears’ 27-7 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles as part of Latino Heritage Month. The performance received cheers but also criticism online from some supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement. The group has been nominated for two Latin Grammys and has performed across the U.S., including at the Kennedy Center.
