Grammar Focus

Target: Very simple present tense with “hay” and “ser/estar”.

• Hay + noun = “there is/there are”:

  • Hay un concurso. – There is a contest.

• Ser (to be) for identity and basic facts:

  • Ella es presidenta. – She is president.

  • El partido es en México. – The match is in Mexico.

• Estar (to be) for location:

  • El estadio está en la ciudad. – The stadium is in the city.

Un concurso para ir al Mundial

La presidenta de México tiene un boleto muy especial para el Mundial de fútbol. Ella quiere regalar su boleto. Hay un concurso para jóvenes entre 16 y 25 años. Ellas tienen que hacer dominadas con el balón por un minuto y subir un video a internet. La mejor jugadora gana el concurso y va al partido en el Estadio Azteca. La presidenta se queda en el Zócalo con la gente para ver el partido en pantallas. Una joven representa a México en la ceremonia de apertura.
