Grammar Focus —Hay (There is / There are)

In Spanish, hay is used for both singular and plural:

• Hay un parque. → There is one park.

• Hay veinte parques. → There are twenty parks.

• Hay 62,000 empleos. → There are 62,000 jobs.

💡 Tip: Hay never changes! Unlike English, you don't need "is" vs. "are."

Los parques industriales de México

México tiene nuevos parques industriales. Son veinte parques en total. Están en diez estados del país, como Nuevo León, Jalisco y Baja California. Los parques son muy grandes — tienen 3.5 millones de metros cuadrados. En los parques trabajan muchas personas. Hay aproximadamente 62,000 empleos directos. Las empresas en los parques fabrican autos, aviones, electrónica y dispositivos médicos. También hay empresas de logística. El gobierno y el sector privado trabajan juntos. Esto se llama Plan México. El objetivo del plan es tener cien parques industriales en total. México quiere ser una economía muy importante en el mundo. ¡El futuro de México es brillante!
