San Miguel de Allende’s Patriotic and Patron Saint Festivities commemorate Mexico’s independence movement through civic ceremonies, historic reenactments, ceremonial horseback processions, parades, music, dance, fireworks, and public celebrations. The central observances take place September 13–16, culminating in the Grito de Independencia on the night of September 15 and a full Independence Day program on September 16.

Sunday, September 13

• 10:00 AM — Defense of Chapultepec Castle and the Niños Héroes: Civic commemoration at Parque Benito Juárez.

• 5:00 PM — 71st Carrera de la Conspiración: A symbolic race whose winners participate in bringing the Fuego Libertario from Querétaro on September 15.

• 5:00 PM — Civic Ceremony: A historic relay departs from Jalpa carrying messages linked to La Corregidora and Ignacio Allende.

Monday, September 14

• 5:00 PM — Arrival of the Cabalgata de los Conspiradores de Querétaro de 1810: The ceremonial horseback procession arrives at the Jardín Principal esplanade.

Tuesday, September 15 — Independence Eve

• 6:00 AM — National Flag Raising: In front of the Municipal Palace.

• 9:00 AM — Presentation of the Conseja: Municipal authorities receive representatives and prepare for the traditional Grito ceremony at the Jardín Principal.

• 1:30 PM — Arrival of the Conspirators’ Cabalgata: From Charco de Sierra into downtown San Miguel de Allende.

• 3:00 PM — 79th Traditional Symbolic Race: Athletes carry the Fuego Libertario from Querétaro as a reenactment of the warning that the independence conspiracy had been discovered.

• 10:55 PM — Arrival of the Fuego Libertario: The torch arrives in San Miguel de Allende.

• 11:00 PM — Grito de Independencia Ceremony: Led by Municipal President Mauricio Trejo Pureco from the balcony of the historic home of Generalísimo Don Ignacio Allende y Unzaga.

Wednesday, September 16 — Mexican Independence Day

• 6:00 AM — National Flag Raising: At the Municipal Palace.

• 9:00 AM — Civic Commemoration: Floral offerings and a symbolic flame ceremony at the Casa de Don Ignacio Allende.

• 11:00 AM — 31st Traditional and Legendary Independence Route: Motorcycle procession traveling from Celaya to Parque Zeferino Gutiérrez.

• 11:00 AM — Civic-Military Parade: Commemorating the start of Mexico’s independence struggle; route includes Calle del Cardo, Ancha de San Antonio, Zacateros, Canal, Hernández Macías, Mesones, Núñez, San Francisco, Plaza Principal, Correo, and Recreo.

• 6:00 PM — National Flag Lowering: At the Municipal Palace.

• 6:15 PM — Traditional Entrance of the Insurgents: Procession organized by the Asociación Tradicionalista, arriving at the Jardín Principal.

• 8:00 PM — Arrival of the Cabalgata: Ceremonial entrance and presentation of patriotic symbols.
