Mexico’s population reached 130.9 million in late 2025, up 3.9% from 2020, but population growth has slowed to an average of 0.7% per year. At the same time, the median age rose from 29 to 32, reflecting a growing share of adults and older people. Mexico’s fertility rate fell sharply from 1.9 children per woman in 2019 to 1.2 in 2024, well below the commonly cited replacement rate of 2.1. The demographic shift could eventually lead to a declining population and a smaller number of taxpayers alongside rising pension obligations.
