From Times Square to Brooklyn, Mexico fans turned NYC into a party for El Tri match with South Korea
On Thursday, Times Square and other New York City sites were a sea of red, white and green as Mexico fans gathered for El Tri’s knockout match against South Korea.
The world was warned Mexico couldn’t pull this off. A week into the World Cup, the facts tell a different story, writes Charlotte Smith.
In fact, during the Mexico-So. Korea contest, some 200,000 fans gathered in (and around) Mexico City’s Zócalo, four times the capacity of Guadalajara Stadium where the game was actually played.
