“In a concession to automakers in the United States, U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday signed two executive orders to relax his auto tariffs, a move that President Claudia Sheinbaum said gives Mexico “an additional comparative advantage.”

Vehicles assembled in Mexico will still be subject to U.S. tariffs, although the rate is lower than the full 25% because U.S. content in those vehicles will not be taxed.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative moved Mexico to its Priority Watch List due to “significant IP concerns … many of which relate to Mexico’s implementation of the USMCA.”
