Here's the storytelling trick that separates intermediate speakers from beginners: the Pretérito is your camera snapshot — a completed action with a clear start and end (ganó, cruzó, hizo). The Imperfecto is your video recording — ongoing background scenery, feelings, or repeated states (se sentía, subía, apoyaba). Once this "click" happens, you'll never tell a boring story in Spanish again — every sentence becomes cinematic.
