If you could handle the basic level... this will be a piece of cake!

Intermediate Level: Decidir cuánto dejar

Overview: At the upper-intermediate level, you will move beyond ordering and paying. You will explain your choices, compare tipping practices, and use the subjunctive to make polite recommendations. This is where you start sounding thoughtful—not merely fluent.

⚡ Grammar focus

When Spanish expresses a recommendation, request, hope, or suggestion about what another person should do, it often uses the present subjunctive.
Formula:
Recomiendo que + person + subjunctive
  • Recomiendo que observes el contexto.
I recommend that you observe the context.
  • Sofía quiere que Liam pregunte con respeto.
Sofía wants Liam to ask respectfully.
It is important that the money reach the waiter.
Notice the change:
  • Yo observo → que tú observes
  • El dinero llega → que el dinero llegue
Mini reto
The subjunctive is not an obstacle; it is a signal that your Spanish is becoming more nuanced. Every time you use recomiendo que, you unlock a more considerate, natural voice. Return tomorrow and try it with travel, work, or friendships.
