Olinia is Mexico’s first domestically developed electric vehicle, unveiled in June 2026 by President Claudia Sheinbaum as an ultra-affordable, government-backed project designed to democratize clean urban transport.

Named after the Nahuatl word for “movement,” the Olinia Uno is a compact six-passenger mini-EV built for intensive city use, featuring a 14.7 kWh battery with a range of around 100 km, a top speed of 50 km/h, and the ability to charge from a standard household outlet. Developed by Mexican public research institutions including the National Polytechnic Institute and TecNM, it is priced at 150,000 pesos (roughly US $8,600) and is set to go into production in summer 2027.
