Delta Air Lines released a statement lamenting the news, calling it “a decision that will cause significant harm to U.S. jobs, communities and consumers traveling between the U.S. and Mexico.”
Day-trippers, who make up nearly half of Mexico’s international visitors, drove the trend.

The direct route will begin operations — for holiday travelers — on Dec. 13 and will resume permanently — for sports travelers — starting in the summer of 2026.
